7 Lancaster County Fairs that Celebrate Agriculture and Community Spirit
Did you know that Pennsylvania is home to more than 100 agricultural fairs? Of course, here in Lancaster County, we're well-known for our rich agricultural heritage and traditions. This legacy is proudly showcased each year at seven vibrant community fairs, scattered in all corners of the county. These fairs are a keystone of local culture and community spirit and bring together residents and visitors to celebrate the best of rural life.
As late summer transitions into fall, nearly every weekend is marked by a fair, each with its own unique charm and festivities. Elizabethtown Fair (Aug. 19 – 24)
Location: 900 E. High St., Elizabethtown, PA
The Elizabethtown Fair is a staple of the local community, held each August for the last 51 years. It features an array of exhibits showcasing the finest livestock, produce, baked goods, and crafts. With free admission, visitors can enjoy classic fair activities such as petting zoos, thrilling rides and competitive games. The fairgrounds come alive with nightly entertainment, delicious food vendors, and a festive atmosphere that welcomes families and friends to enjoy a week of fun and camaraderie — plus fireworks on the last night of the fair.
Denver Fair (Sept. 10 – 14)
Location: 801 Main St., Denver, PA
Founded in 1981, the Denver Fair is known for its small-town charm and big-time fun. This fair has grown tremendously over the years and today attracts over 40,000 visitors. The Denver Fair has been a free admission fair since 1983, and includes over 25 amusements rides, 80 food and game concession stands, free entertainment, contests, fireworks and more. Of course, there's a delightful mix of agricultural exhibits, including impressive livestock shows, horticultural displays, 4-H projects, and antique farm equipment — making the Denver Fair a must-visit event in early September.
Solanco Fair (Sept. 18 – 20)
Location: 172 S. Lime St., Quarryville, PA
The Southern Lancaster County Fair, better known as the Solanco Fair, is a beloved tradition in Quarryville that celebrates its 75th year in 2024. There are no games of chance or rides at the fair, something organizers decided at the very start, way back in 1950 when the fair first began. The focus was then, and remains today, on the area’s agricultural heritage. The opening-day street parade through downtown Quarryville is always crowd favorite. The fair features a variety of food stands, artisan crafts, agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, live music, and family-friendly entertainment. But the real draw may just be the famous Solanco Fair milkshakes — taste one for yourself!
Ephrata Fair (Sept. 24 – 28)
Location: 19 S. State St., Ephrata, PA
The Ephrata Fair is one of the largest and oldest fairs in Lancaster County, dating back to 1919. This is actually a street fair in the heart of Ephrata, with Main and State streets closed to traffic for the 5-day fair. With its expansive midway filled with thrilling rides, games, and food stalls, the fair attracts thousands of visitors each year. Agricultural displays, including prize-winning livestock and produce, can be found in the Tent City at Grater Memorial Park. The fair also hosts a grand parade, live music, and various competitions that showcase the talents of the local community.
West Lampeter Community Fair (Sept. 25 – 27)
Location: 851 Village Road, Lampeter, PA
Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2024, the West Lampeter Community Fair is a cherished local event that emphasizes agricultural education and community involvement. Attendees can explore a wide range of exhibits, from beautifully arranged produce to expertly crafted quilts. No rides, but plenty of wholesome activities. The fair's tractor parade, livestock shows and auction, all-Western horse show are always a highlight. Live demonstrations and contests provide engaging entertainment throughout the three-day event at Lampeter Community Park.
New Holland Farmers Fair (Oct. 2 – 5)
Location: 101 W. Franklin St., New Holland, PA
The New Holland Farmers Fair is a celebration of farm and community that's been going strong for nearly 100 years. Downtown streets are closed to traffic and come alive with festivities that offer the perfect blend of tradition and entertainment — a vibrant parade, carnival rides, games, agricultural exhibits, livestock shows and much more. Attendees can enjoy classic fair food and regional specialties at the food stands, watch live entertainment, and participate in various contests.
Manheim Community Farm Show (Oct. 7 – 11)
Location: 502 Adele Ave., Manheim, PA
Rounding out the fair season is the Manheim Community Farm Show, a five-day event at Veterans Memorial Park. A lot has changed since the first farm show on Market Square in 1954. Today, thousands of visitors flock to take part in the fun, food and fellowship that the Manheim Community Farm Show offers. The farm show features an impressive array of livestock, produce, and handmade goods, and visitors are treated to tractor pulls, horse shows, and a variety of family-friendly activities. Bring your appetite for delicious food — all 25 Manheim Farm Show food stands are run by local nonprofit groups who use the proceeds to support their organizations.
