Lancaster County, with its rich agricultural heritage and thriving culinary scene, boasts a plethora of food festivals that celebrate our local produce and cuisine. Here are some of our favorite food festivals within a short drive of our historic inn that are a must-visit for any foodie. Bon appétit!
Rhubarb Festival │ Kitchen Kettle Village │ May
If you're not familiar with rhubarb, it's a tart vegetable with long, thick reddish-pink stalks. In mid-May, this obscure vegetable takes center stage at the Kitchen Kettle Village's Rhubarb Festival — a tradition for 30 years! There will be rhubarb jam, dips, sauces, pies and drinks for tasting, as well as some zany events like the rhubarb race-car derby and the crowning of the rhubarb king and queen.
Strawberry Festival │ Lancaster Central Market │ June
Anytime is a good time to visit the historic Lancaster Central Market to take advantage of all of the locally grown and produced food. But Strawberry Festival in June is an especially sweet time to visit. Not only will market stands have fresh strawberries for sale, but also strawberry treats, drinks and other goodies. There will be live music, face painting, and food stands and activities both inside and outside the market.
Lancaster VegFest │ Buchanan Park │ June
This goal of this two-day, plant-based festival is to show the community the benefits of living vegan. The expansive food court has dozens of delicious offerings — everything from vegan tacos and sushi to vegan ice cream. And there's even a vegan beer garden. The festival also includes a farmer market and vegan marketplace. Proceeds from the festival benefit the Lancaster Farm Sanctuary.
Sweet Corn Festival │ Cherry Crest Adventure Farm │ July
Corn on the cob is a must-have summer food, and it doesn't get any fresher than at the Sweet Corn Festival at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm. This "corny" festival features specialty sweet corn menu items, corn crafts and games, live music, and a local brewery. Plus, you won’t want to miss the sweet corn eating contest.
AppleUmpkin Fest │ Adamstown Grove │ October
Fall in Lancaster County is synonymous with apple and pumpkin picking, and the AppleUmpkin Fest in Adamstown Grove is the perfect opportunity to get your fall-flavors fix. The fresh-baked apple dumplings are the most sought-after treat at the festival, although there are plenty of other favorite fair foods to enjoy. The festival celebrates the harvest season with pumpkin decorating, an apple peeling contest, apple cider pressing demonstrations, hayrides, carnival games, arts and crafts vendors, and live music.
