Enjoy Summer Music and Art at Long's Park in Lancaster
Long's Park in Lancaster has been a mecca for music lovers since its amphitheater was dedicated in 1962 and hosted its first performances, filling the park with melodies. Little could city residents have imagined back then the lasting musical and cultural legacy this stage would carry for six decades and counting. Long's Park is less than 20 minutes west of After Eight Bed and Breakfast. This summer, stay at our historic bed-and-breakfast and take part in a Lancaster tradition by heading to one of the Sunday evening shows that are part of the Long's Park Summer Concert Series.
For 12 weeks all summer long, Long’s Park invites a range of musical talent to take the stage. Blues, country, rock, bluegrass, folk, reggae and R&B artists — the music is as diverse as the audiences who come to listen and dance to the performances. As the sun dips below the horizon, the enchanting outdoor stage comes alive. The rhythms and melodies mingle with the warm summer breezes to create a common bond that brings people together in the spirit of community. Get ready to surrender to the magic and let the music set you free.
Two of the bigger concerts this summer will be "A Night in Nashville" on July 7 featuring three country music acts, and the "Watkins Glen Tribute" on July 28 with three American rock bands covering tunes by The Band, Dead & Company, and the Allman Brothers Band. Find a full schedule of all the shows on the Long's Park website.
Because these weekly concerts are free, Long's Park Amphitheater Foundation must raise funds to support the Summer Music Series. That's where the Labor Day Art Festival comes in. Proceeds from this three-day event fund more than half of the Summer Music Series' budget. The art festival has grown to become a nationally recognized event in its own right, now in its 46th year. Long's Park transforms into a beautiful art gallery over Labor Day weekend, with 200 local and national juried artists showcasing their work. Discover artisans in 25 unique categories — from hand-woven clothing and exquisite jewelry to expertly thrown pottery and handcrafted furniture. Enjoy live music, delicious food, wine and beer as your stroll along the park's paths surveying the outdoor art gallery.
The Long's Park Summer Music Series and Labor Day Art Festival are just two more reasons why Lancaster is a great place for a summer getaway. Spend a few days at After Eight Bed and Breakfast and make plans to fill your summer Sundays with great music, or spend Labor Day weekend with us and take in the art festival. Both events provide a perfect opportunity to experience the artistic side of Lancaster.
