Spend a Day in Charming Lititz, PA
Lancaster County is filled with quaint historic towns where rural charm and modern flair come together in an inviting atmosphere. Nowhere is this more evident than in Lititz, Pennsylvania – a small town with a big heart. During your next stay with us at After Eight Bed and Breakfast, carve out some time to explore downtown Lititz and its shops, eateries, parks, historic sites and festivals.
Named for a Bohemian castle, Lititz has deep German roots. Although once inhabited by the Nanticoke Indians, the town was established in the 1740s as a model Christian community based on Moravian ideology. The town's rich history is still apparent as you stroll through the downtown. Lititz is home to Linden Hall, the nation's oldest girls school, as well as the oldest commercial pretzel baker, Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery. A trip to Lititz wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Wilbur Chocolate Company's retail store, home of the famous Wilbur Buds that were first introduced in 1894.
There are dozens of unique specialty shops in downtown Lititz, many of them housed in historic buildings concentrated on East Main, North Broad and South Broad streets. You'll find unexpected and whimsical home decor and gifts at Zum Anker Alley Shoppes, where you can pick up a fun gift or a souvenir to remind you of your Lancaster County getaway. Both Clemintines and Tiger's Eye offer boutique clothing and accessories with a personal touch. Heavenly Soaps and Scents not only carries wonderful smelling bath and body products, but also a carefully curated selection of gifts. Zest! has gourmet food and spices, kitchen gadgets, cookware, home goods and more.
After all of that shopping, you're sure to work up an appetite. There are so many outstanding restaurants in downtown Lititz it's impossible to pick a favorite. Try the wood-fired cuisine at Blackworth Live Fire Grill and traditional British pub fare at Bulls Head Public House. The menu at Tied House is full of flavor with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Earlier in the day, Tomato Pie Cafe has coffee, breakfast and lunch in a cozy atmosphere.
The community of Lititz lets the good times roll with signature events like the Fire & Ice Festival, the Rotary Craft Show, the July 4th Celebration, and the upcoming Taste of Lititz. Set for June 7 from 5-9 p.m., the Taste of Lititz is a delicious night out that invites you to try small tastes of local restaurants’ best dishes. East Main Street will be closed to traffic, and you’ll be able to stroll along, drink in hand, sampling tasty bites. Of course, your strolling might turn to dancing thanks to a lineup of live music scheduled throughout the night. Want more?
