A Sticky Situation
Many of the best foods in regular “American” diet and cuisine originated with the Pennsylvania Dutch settlers. Such words like the German bratwurst and weiner schnitzel are household staples throughout America for anyone that, well, eats. The Germanic influences have a much, much sweeter side, though; it was the PA Dutch that introduced America to the deliciousness of the sticky bun. Originally called “schnecken,” many of us will remember having homemade sticky buns most Sunday mornings, but there’s one bakery that makes a sticky bun to out-sticky them all - Mr. Sticky’s.
Located directly in front of the Discover Lancaster Visitor Center, Mr. Sticky’s has been making and baking some of the most satisfying treats around for just under two decades. Besides the dough of the sticky buns, Mr. Sticky’s also has homemade iced tea and iced coffee and even uses its own recipe for the icing and cream cheese! You can also get sandwiches, soups, and salads but rest assured, the temptation to eat dessert first (or to only get dessert) is practically irresistible.
Various sticky bun flavors are available and the buns pair great with coffee. If you get hooked, don’t worry. You can always order online; Mr. Sticky’s now ships nationwide. Calling ahead for your order is a good idea, too. Because of the homemade quality of Mr. Sticky’s specialty sticky buns, the line often moves quite slowly. Calling ahead is highly recommended if you plan on taking a box home or have a large order.
Mr. Sticky’s is open Monday through Friday, 6:30AM-5PM and Saturday 7AM-5PM. Click here to get more information and directions.
