Visit Lancaster County’s Amish Village
Get an authentic look at the Amish lifestyle within the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country at the Amish Village. Located on 12 acres, the authentic Amish property includes a one-room schoolhouse, barn with animals, blacksmith shop, smokehouse market, and more. Take a guided half-hour farmhouse tour, walk through the village on your own, or relax on a narrated backroads bus tour.
When you visit the Amish Village, you get a local’s view on the Amish community of Lancaster County and their place in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. It’s an experience that provides a glimpse into the Amish culture, one that has barely changed for almost 300 years.
Most visitors take a guided tour of the Amish farmhouse, built in 1840. The tour is about 25 minutes. Afterwards, explore the 12-acre Village Grounds on your own. Visit the barn to see farm animals or head over to the Smokehouse Market for Amish-made jams, apple butter, whoopie pies, and more available for purchase. You’ll also find Amish-made crafts and souvenirs.
Keep in mind some interesting questions visitors have, like how cell phones and solar energy fit into the Amish lifestyle and what you can tell about an Amish man just by looking at his hat.
