Wolf Sanctuary Fall Moon Tour
One of Lancaster’s most unique experiences is the popular Wolf Sanctuary of PA. Originally founded as a private rescue over three decades ago, the sanctuary has grown as the permanent home to forty wolf and wolf-dog rescues on eighty acres of natural woodland. The sanctuary offers guided tours that let visitors see wolves in a natural environment, learn about their history and current conservation efforts, and just enjoy the outdoors of the scenic area.
Tours of the Wolf Sanctuary of PA travel through natural trails (be sure to wear comfortable sneakers!) and are only offered at certain times. Visitors have the option to do weekday or weekend public tours, schedule a private tour, or attend one of the incredible full moon tour events. Public tours on the weekend are held once per day on Saturdays and Sundays. Guides lead guests and visitors around to several of the wolf packs while providing interesting information about the specific wolves at the sanctuary and more general topics like conservation. Starting in October, public tours are held at noon on Saturdays and Sundays and cost $12 per adult,
Held on the Saturday evening closest to the full moon of each month, the full moon tour events feature a bonfire, live entertainment, and self-guided tours through the sanctuary. Guides stationed at each wolf pack provide information and answer any questions you might have throughout the evening. Pack a picnic of marshmallows (and don’t forget the graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate!) or hot dogs for the bonfire to make the full moon tour night extra special. Bring a blanket and chairs alongside your picnic to kick back and relax beneath the glowing orb of the full moon, then return to the luxurious amenities and ultra-soft linens of your guest room at After Eight afterwards for some restful sleep. The remaining two full moon tour dates for 2019 are November 9 (Beaver Moon) and December 14 (Cold Moon). Tickets are $20 per adult.
Check the Wolf Sanctuary tour schedule before planning your visit to the Wolf Sanctuary. The Gift Shop is open during tour hours or by appointment and all proceeds directly benefit the wolves.
